Oddly, this thing has a ton of room in the belly -- so much so that I would have sent it right back to RueLaLa had we not just found out about the wee bean. I anticipate this one working for quite some time!

Well!

It's been awhile!

I fully admit that vanity played heavily into my hiatus. Ye ol' uterus squatter has been doing a number on my energy, skin, and mid-section... not to mention my wardrobe. 1,983% worth it, of course, but I'd be lying if I said I've been hung-ho about my appearance these past few months.

But.... ahhhh... there it is... Second Trimester! My energy's {mostly} back which means I've become reacquainted with my hairdryer and mascara. And, this week {#14, if anyone's keeping track}, I swallowed my pride and fully embraced maternity pants! And they feel delicious!

For the most part, my tops and dresses still work, but, since the BellaBand and I never got along, my bottoms are ready for a stretchy-waistband-type-makeover.

And so here we are.

Apologies for starting this new phase in ITPitB with such a boring ensemble, but that's just how the cookie crumbles... But! I am really thrilled to review GAP's new Ultimate Panel Trouser Maternity Jeans**...

With their super dark wash and wide trouser leg, these jeans are perfect for casual workdays. GAP's new "ultimate panel" is higher in the back and lower in the front. I'm told this provides support for back and {my currently "squint-or-you'll-miss-it"} belly.

WHATEVER "TECHNOLOGY" I'M JUST PSYCHED I CAN BREATHE NOW.

{Sizing Note: These are my regular GAP denim size in the Long length.}

I bought two of these SNUG camisoles** when they were on sale at Zulily. I should have bought every color - these things are amazing. They are not maternity wear, but are a super stretchy, super long, one-size-fits-all {sizes 0-24} tank so they work great for those with or without buns in zee oven. They do not bunch or ride up up... a rarity! Also, they are thin, but not too thin - I feel like I can wear them with an unbuttoned cardigan and not look as if I'm walking around in my underwear in public. Good stuff all around. {Although, WARNING: their website could use a revamp... quite amateurish and, sometimes, like an online retailer for strippers.}

So my posts here are a bit spastic... no rhyme or reason for why - I just haven't quite gotten back into my groove of snapping daily photos!

... But, I figured a new red dress was worth the effort!

I love styles like this because they flow seamlessly from work to play, and {let's be honest} the cinched elastic waist accommodates a little weight gain. Without the belt, there is a nice blouse-y effect! And I love the rip-stop zipper pocket detail!

Been running a little late the past few mornings... not enough time to snap photos and post before work! But here's yesterday's outfit.... I'm so glad it's finally getting and staying cooler during the day!

This nubby black wrap cardigan is a favorite winter purchase from two years ago - it's the perfect layering piece! I love that it's short-sleeved but thick - I can throw it over light fall and spring items for when there's just a slight chill in the air, or pop it over other sweaters for mega-warmth!

And, um, I really can't gush about these GAP Boy Fit trousers enough... Peppermint Bliss spoke to my soul today, describing her quest for the perfect, casual, boyfriend-jeans-centered look... I look like a frumptastic sausage person in boyfriend jeans... and I've tried on muchos. BUT! These pants are a bit like the work version of the boyfriend jean... and they are actually flattering (although, I'm not sure the photos depict that so much... hmmmm... hopefully I'm not just delusional) - L-O-V-E, LOVE!

No. I'm not starting off my morning with a heavy dose of Pinot Grigio (if only). But I did bust out my new turtleneck from Lands' End Canvas {the Women's Softest Turtleneck Sweater}. I'm feeling a little under the weather (hence the frowny faces), so the workday requires something soft and cozy.

Turtleneck Fit Review: Like many LEC items, this runs a bit big. I ordered my normal size but could have sized down. I like the blousier fit for work but might order a black one in the smaller size for layering and weekends. The material is very, very soft, but it is thin - perfect for Texas, but not really a "sweater" - more of a knit.

A new pair of jeans, a few sweaters, and a pair of gorgeous over-the-knee boots are the only things on my shopping list this season!

Let's get one thing straight before we dive right into my shame-spiral... I don't DO Jeggings. I fully embraced the skinny jeans and the leggings last year... booties won me over in 2009 after two years of internal struggle... and last week I succumbed to a pair of (NON HOOKER) over-the-knee boots. But I stand firm in my stance against Jeggings.

Or, denim-colored jeggings, that is.

Because, you see, when you have a coupon for a free pair of jeans that is about to expire and all your little heart desires is a pair of GAP Always Skinnies in Black, but all three stores you visit happen to be out of black Skinnies (in EVERY size), you can be forced to take drastic measures.

Drastic Measures = Black "Jeggings"... WHICH, I am not even counting as "jeggings" because they have a working zipper and button - the Hallmark of a true jegging being it's purely pull-on style.

I prefer to think of them as psuedo-pixie-pants a la J.Crew Fall 2009, thankyouverymuch. Or, just black skinny pants. Which is exactly what they look like. OKAY?!

I admit... this is one of those dresses that I lusted after, finally purchased... and have never worn. I think it's been sitting in the ol' closet since February. Sad, little airplanes. :( All alone. But the age old problem is, of course, where does one wear a dress festooned with old-timey biplanes? A wedding on the Carolina coast is an option that comes to mind... too bad an Ironing Incident left my little dress high-and-dry.

So, today I just decided to suck it up and stop waiting for a "Wrightsville Dress Appropriate Event." Summer's almost over (well, the heat's not almost over... but Labor Day will be here before we know it), and this frock is just too cute to keep tucked away until 2011.

It's also a stupid secret because I guaran-damn-tee you that I'd snatch up a pair in every single color if they'd reappear in my Fall catalog.

Oh well. For now, there's always eBay. Of which I have to thank for THESE!

They are crackly and metallic and blush and PERFECT. And only $50.00 + $7 shipping! {Note: These aren't technically "Juliets" - they are "Claudia" but are the exact same shape and fit... just crackly metallic leather with a covered heel as opposed to the patent with the wood heel.}

So cute, I wore them yesterday as well. Faux-pas? Dorothy wore her sparkly shoes all the way down that yellow brick road, so I figure I'm probably okay with a Monday/Tuesday Double Dose.

Which, actually, I'm not being dramatic - these shoes hurt like the dickens but are worth it ~~on a day when I don't have to walk to the fax machine too often~~! Honestly though, while these will always be my most beloved closet pets (they were my wedding present, after all!), I wouldn't spend any more moola on C.Loubs with stilettos and/or heels more than 3 inches tall. Ahhh platform pumps...

... they make your legs look longer and slimmer, and the big boost under the ball of your foot distributes weight more evenly, making for more comfy shoes!

So what's not to love?

Nothing... in the right atmosphere! For nights out, I pair mine with everything... skinny jeans, skirts and dresses of all silhouettes - from slimmer fits to floatier varieties.

But for the office? Personally, I do think you can make room for platform pumps in your workwear... but when I start sashaying around in mega-high stilettos and a pencil skirt, I feel more Jessica Rabbit and less Competent Kate.

I like fuller and slightly longer circle skirts to compensate for a sassier shoe... this combo tones the sex-appeal way down while still allowing for some fun in the footwear department!

Last Friday, I ~~skirted~~ panted the No Jeans on Casual Friday issue by busting out my new linen pants from GAP (Sale! $25! Score!)...

Back in my OCD Days, I was anti-linen... Too! Many! Wrinkles! I've since embraced the wonders of linen... and I no longer break out in hives if socks get left on the bathroom floor (although nagging over said socks isn't something I've yet grown out of).

Between the "fancy" t-shirt, the sandals, and the feel-like-pajama-pants pants, it was a pretty comfy Friday!

The sandals are the first item of Lilly Pulitzer I've ever purchased, and while I find them rather cute, I have to say that I am WHOLLY UNIMPRESSED with the quality. I've worn them maybe 10 times and the heels have half-peeled off (making a really unpleasant flapping sound every time I take a step). WTF, LILLY? Not only do you create woman's clothing that looks like a Floridian four year old's bed spread (grown women in hot pink giraffes? bleh), but the few age-appropriate items you do design fall apart in an instant? NO THANK YOU. Our very brief relationship is officially over ~~even if I do think some of your tunics are cute and I'd really like some of those pineapple pajamas~~. Super glad that the only "money" I spent on these suckers was RueLaLa credits!

And an answer... I had a question about how the Heritage cardigans wear... I definitely wear these multiple times before cleaning - I don't find they stretch out at all! Although, my normal "medium" in tops is slightly looser in the Lands' End Canvas sizing, so the cardigans are a bit larger to begin with... so there's really no pulling that would cause stretching. The only part that wears a bit are the bends in the elbows (they get wrinkly), but those are usually back to normal after I hang them up for a while!

My Monday Fashion Plan of Attack was to transform my new dress from Cocktail to Coffee Break... initially I was contemplating lots of Accessory Experimentation... and then HORROR OF TEXAS HORRORS our A/C went out.

Luckily, our detached guest room has a window unit so our little family didn't die of heat exhaustion in our sleep... but come morning time, 87 degrees did not a pleasant dressing room atmosphere make.

Thus... HERITAGE CARDIGAN.

THAT'S IT! ALL WE GET FOR TODAY!

No fun belts. No Extreme Layering. No perky hair.

JUST THAT DAMN CARDIGAN.**

**PS: My colleagues have officially noticed The Cardigan Obsession. 2 weeks ago, someone proposed the creation of a spreadsheet to keep track of which color I wear on what day. Awesome. I am officially Crazy Cardigan Lady. Perhaps I should look into purchasing 27 cats with whom to loll around in order to really round out the cliche imagery.

This weekend, we had the pleasure of dinning with Evs' boss, Evs' summer clerk, and both of their lovely wives. It's so nice to enjoy an evening with work people where you don't have to feel "on"... and where you enjoy the most delectable mustard cream sauce you've ever had the pleasure of dipping your ~~fingers~~ halibut in!

I was planning on busting out a fancy white sundress that hasn't seen the light of day since our honeymoon (hence the reason that I only purchased one of these types of "bridal ensembles"... where do girls wear all these white dresses after the festivities are over???), but this little pink number called to me from the window of Ann Taylor...

... and I'm super-psyched to transform it into work-wear this week! It's the exact type of frock I look for to serve dual-purposes... flirty details, fun fabric, but a classic and none-too-sexy cut. I purchased this skirt in NYC with my mom when I was 20 - from some random shop in SoHo. It was one of those items that I bought because my mom really, really wanted me to (not to mention it only cost something 18 buckaroos). I'll admit, in the past 7 years, it hasn't gotten a lot of play in my closet rotation. But for some reason I've held onto it... and recently, my pack-ratting paid off, as it's one of my "new" favorites!

All my Clemson gals will be pleased again...

'Twas another Purple + Orange Day! And, another Heritage Cardigan Day... because, obviously, I had to commemorate NOT wearing one ALL WEEK last week by... WEARING ONE TODAY!.

There was no A/C in our half of the building today. No AirCon + 91 degrees outside = No bueno. No AirCon + 91 degrees outside + working in a public health services building = Really, really, really no bueno.

It felt like going to work on the set of Dirty Dancing Two: Havana Nights, except without the (a) Patrick Swayze cameo, (b) mojitos, or (c) muddled attempts to metaphorize political and social revolution in a clever manner which appeals to the bubblegum set.

Moral of the Story: I promise not to whine about the 76 Degree Rule in our household for at least 27 hours.

You know those mornings when you lay in bed, attempting to come up with creative, um, tweaks to your morning routine that will allow you even more time to lay in bed? Let's say, for example - hypothetically, of course - that you stayed up until 2 a.m. the night before watching A Few Good Men on TMC, because you can't not watch the big Tom Cruise / Jack Nicholson Showdown at the end, and, after all, it is the flick that sparked your short-lived interest in joining JAG... an interest that might have lived longer if the Navy could come up with cuter sailor suits for its attorneys and/or didn't require legal officers to complete Basic Training.

BASIC TRAINING? Say what? You've never seen a 1L high-tail it out of an OCI interview with such haste. These arms don't do pull-ups.

Ahem.

Continuing on our hypothetical journey, you determine that this weekend's exercise has indeed caught up with your hair and your follicles are entirely too greasy to take the normal "snooze button beauty routine path." I know! I shall wear my hair curly!, you exclaim with glee, snuggling back under the covers for 10 more minutes.

Once showered, another stroke of genius descends... I shall simply mousse, scrunch, and air-dry - skipping even the minimal diffuser blow-drying! The Brilliant Plan seems to take for 15 minutes and then...

... then... Humphf.

Let's just put it this way. Yesterday I (um, you - hypothetical, yes) watched a Lifetime Original Movie starring The Most Infuriating Teenage Actress in the World, the one and only, Kristen Stewart. The movie was entitled "Speak," and involved a teenage girl who refuses to tell anyone she's been raped and thus, becomes depressed and withdrawn. So, really, the PERFECT ROLE for Ms. Stewart, seeing as her character requires (1) practical muteness, (2) scads of angsty staring, and (3) zero smiling (because God forbid Kristen Stewart EVER smiles... I'm on Oprah? Could this BE a bigger waste of my time? What'd you say, O? Young girls from Haiti tell me my role as Bella in the Twilight series made them more confident in their own awkwardness? Um, SNOOZE! Presenting at the Oscars? Whatever, I'd rather be at home with my cats.)

(I HATE HER).

Anyhoo, the English teacher in this cinematic wonder is portrayed as a slightly nutty woman with massive, straw-like hair that sticks out at all angles and is always covering her face. Kristen calls her "Crazy Hair Woman." (Sooooooo creative, KStew).

My hair this morning? After executing my Brilliant Plan? LOOKED LIKE CRAZY HAIR WOMAN'S.

Which is why it's in a bun today. {Did I mention I can be the worst teller of the most pointless stories of all time? Whatevs, at least Kristen Stewart's not the narrator. 'Cause there'd be a lot more sighing. And dramatic pauses. And angry nose scrunching. And general unpleasantness.}

Today, for good ol' "casual Friday," I pulled this skirt from the depths of my closet and thought "huh. wonder if this still fits." Like a glove. Love it when that happens. I'm not exactly sure of it's "birth date" but I know I have photos of it frolicking around Spain Fall Semester of my Junior year of college... so it's at least 7! And from Old Navy, to boot!

Every Thursday, I lead an information session for potential clients or folks who have on general legal questions. I usually try to wear a legit suit for these meetings so that I look the Lady Lawyer Part... otherwise, I usually get the "eres tan joven para ser abogada!" (you are too young to be a lawyer!) or "hablas espanol! que sopresa!" (you speak Spanish! what a surprise!).

Truth be told, I always get that last comment, regardless of my attire, but the suit jacket tends to discourage the "but you're a baby!" remarks. Unfortunately, I was fresh out of clean suits, so the Turn-a-Dress-into-a-Skirt + Jacket combo had to do... Makin' it work, like my Favorite Gay Boyfriend Tim G.

And to answer a question from yesterday...

Garment Care: I'll be honest with you, we are Dry Cleaning People. I LOATHE ironing and between Evs and myself, we have tons of items that cannot be washed normally in the W/D. I used to attempt hand-washing, line-drying, then ironing on some of my "hand wash only" items, but it just took too much time and my clothes never held up as nicely. Therefore, the only thing that gets laundered in our home are t-shirts, socks, workout gear, jeans/shorts, PJs, linens (as in towels and sheets - not clothes made from linen) and unmentionables.

Nearly everything you see me wearing here to work gets dry cleaned... including things like my cotton cardigans, sweaters and shells. I know the tag says they are safe for the washer and dryer, but dry cleaning doesn't screw with the shape and doesn't cause pilling. Plus everything comes back neatly pressed and feeling new. You'll often see me wearing clothes I purchased several years ago... they would not be in a wearable condition today if I was tasked with laundering them!

To cut down on cost, I've found a dry-cleaner that runs weekly specials, I steer clear of the "designer dry cleaners" (I'm lookin' at you Bibbentuckers and Eco-Cleaners!), and we wear things until they are truly dirty - ie: until they are visibly stained or smell. That sounds gross, but most things don't need to be washed after one wear (or two, or three) if you are clean when you put them on and avoid spillage. Plus, wool suiting shouldn't be dry cleaned unless absolutely necessary as it causes the material to get shiny. Evs has a portable steamer which helps immensely to gussy up suits after sitting in them for 14 hours.

I've had it for five years and regularly wear it with brown, black, navy, and gray suits, as well as belted with skinny jeans for nights out!

Let's play a fun game called Did You Know...

Did you know that purple is the official support color for victims of domestic violence? Yep ... much like Pink is to Breast Cancer and Red is to AIDS (anyone smell an SAT question here?).

Aren't you glad we played that game? You learn something new every day!

So in addition to Fridays being casual, we are now encouraged to sport purple at the end of the week to show agency wide support of our clients. This is a policy I can get behind save for one minor problema... I'm not a big purple fan. I'm down with violet and eggplant, but true purple and lavender don't really exist in my closet. I also discovered this morning that, while I do have a few appropriately-hued items in my arsenal (of the aforementioned preferred shades, of course!), they all happen to be the kinds of tops one wears with jeans... which, as you will recall, is a no-no for the agency's attorneys.

I need some black cigarette pants, STAT... or else LEC needs to create an eggplant Heritage cardigan (pretty please, LEC?)!

Here's what I ended up with...

The navy skirt is part of a J.Crew "summer suit" - a cotton chino blend that drives me nutzoid when the jacket and the skirt are paired together because the fabric picks up every speck of dust and errant hair... the pieces are much less frustrating when worn apart (ie: you only have to lint roll half of your body every 10 minutes).

This top is several years old - one of the first things I purchased from Ann Taylor Loft where I thought to myself "hmmmmm, ATL is getting more fashion-y looking!" It's definitely a top that I've only worn before with dark or white denim, but I think the navy pencil skirt worked out okay today... especially for "casual" Friday!

Still loving my LEC canvas flats, although they've received their first smudge :( Still not loving my dirty hexagon bathroom floor.

Not going to lie, I'm kind of loving my outfit today... it has made an otherwise crappy morning a bit brighter!

As an owner of "child-bearing hips" (gross, aaackkk) that are nearly 11 inches larger than my waistline, I love, love, love full high-waisted skirts like this one from J.Crew a couple of Springs ago!

I've had some questions recently about blonds wearing yellow... Yellow is my very favorite color, and I think it looks fabulous on blonds so long as you stick to more marigold and golden yellow hues! A hint of a tan (totally digging this self-tanner right now) doesn't hurt either!

I am unbelieveably miffed today. Yesterday I couldn't find the skirt I wanted and today I couldn't find the dress I wanted. {Our poor dry-cleaner is continually blamed for these incidents... and then-->} Of course while searching for said dress this morning, I found the skirt I was clamoring for yesterday. So maybe tomorrow I'll find that dress. Of course it will be TOO LATE because I have fun plans TONIGHT. Blech.

Thank Gawd it's sundress season again! My closet is chock-full of 'em from seasons' past (this one happens to be my college grad dress from 2005!) and they are the absolute easiest things to throw on!

For example, Sunday morning found us with a rumpled hair, a hankering for Mediterranean food, and a full to-do list of errands requiring attention. A quick brush-through, some bronzer, and a breezy dress-and-cardigan combo and 10 minutes later I was good to go.

Absolutely love this coral print and the lace / bust / braided strap detail. And these silver sandals? Happy, happy, happy momentos purchased on Mykonos during our trip to Greece in 2007... When these wear out, I'll be a Sad Panda.

I love a circle skirt... they just make me want to twirl! This particular skirt (styled for fall here) is potentially my longest running item of clothing in my closet save for my missing pinstripe wool pants from J.Crew (WHERE ARE YOU? COME HOME!). For such a bold print, it's surprisingly versatile!

As you can see from my outfit choices this week, if you told me I could no longer wear cardigans to work, I'd slap you silly... I'm talking Stephen vs. Irene Real World Seattle Style here, folks.

This was one of those mornings where I had in mind what I wanted to wear (dark turquoise rosette neck shell - pictured - with a pencil skirt and jacket). Then the pencil skirt was no where to be found. Nether were my favorite pinstripe pants. So then I had to go with option 3 - black pants from BR that I love but are high-waters in anything but flats. And I think flats look lame with a full, formal suit... Off goes the jacket in exchange for the cardigan.

And THAT'S how we got to 3 LEC Heritage Cardigans in 4 days. Wphew.

Another Mad Men-Inspired Look!

This is the other flirty office frock in my arsenal... although I admit to preferring the other one as I find it to be more flattering. But this one is adjustable and the material is slick (ie: When I spill my coffee down the front of me, it doesn't stain if I act fast! Score!).

The cami is pretty essential to this dress... Its one of those trixy minxes that appears conservative in the breasticle area until you sit down.... and then the front pleats pop open like a Jack-in-the-Box (a lesson I learned the hard way the first time I took this one for a spin).
