flying high

Cheeseball Post Title.  Apologies.

I admit... this is one of those dresses that I lusted after, finally purchased... and have never worn.  I think it's been sitting in the ol' closet since February.  Sad, little airplanes.  :(  All alone.  But the age old problem is, of course, where does one wear a dress festooned with old-timey biplanes?  A wedding on the Carolina coast is an option that comes to mind... too bad an Ironing Incident left my little dress high-and-dry.

So, today I just decided to suck it up and stop waiting for a "Wrightsville Dress Appropriate Event."  Summer's almost over (well, the heat's not almost over... but Labor Day will be here before we know it), and this frock is just too cute to keep tucked away until 2011.

Evs' remark(s) when I pulled this out of the closet this morning?  Does that dress really have planes on it?  It's strapless... are you really going to wear that to work?

Yes... Thank you, Captain Obvious... and, Yes.

  1. Doesn't this dress have petticoats? I feel like maybe I tried it on and then decided against it because I couldn't get on board with petticoats for a day dress.

    You look super cute.

  2. I love it! Perfect for a Friday in the summer - and converts easily to a porch sittin' happy hour. :) Just take the cardigan off and you're ready to go!

  3. I am super impressed with how well you pulled that off. Looks awesome!

  4. I love how you pull off the belted cardigan look. I have tried and tried and I can't make it work. But I am yearning for a belt-defined waist. Perhaps a tutorial for the belt-challenged among us? Although I assume it would go something like this: "Step 1. Put on cardigan. Step 2. Put on belt." Sigh. If there are any secrets to be told, please share.

    Cardigan-ed but beltless,

  5. I love that dress! And love the sweater and belt combo for work. So pretty!

  6. This might be my favorite outfit you've posted. Very nice!

  7. To "speak Kate" - I pink puffy heart that dress! :)

  8. I love that dress! Dresses with adorable prints are some of my faves!

  9. love love...and I like the hubs comments! boys are so silly sometimes! i saw that dress at anthro and wasn't sure, but looks great on you. whimsical and appropriate at the same time!

  10. At Mellisa,

I commiserate! I to am useless with belts. Waist to short! Rib cage too large. Bust to big. No defined waist to speak of. Wide, skinny, stretch, or not to stretch, they don't work for me. I order, I have high hopes, I return, while everyone else makes it look easy.

  11. I love how you paired a yellow cardi with the Wright Dress! Great OOTD!

Feel free to check out my blog:)

  12. This is such a cute way to make a whimsical dress office appropriate. And the yellow is the perfect complement to the bluish-gray hue on the dress. Very nice!
