i know what you're thinking

What you're thinking is OH HOLY MOTHER OF CHEESEBALLS, IS SHE WEARING AQUA JEANS?

Why, yes.  Yes, I am!

Okay, so they're a little "1992 Throwback," but in a good way.

I think.  I hope.

These Rich & Skinny Jeans (which, can we talk about the most genius brand name EVER?) were a summer staple paired with Grecian sandals and long t-shirts.  I wasn't sure how well they'd transition into winter-wear but I think they did okay today!

Longer shirts with these jeans are a must since R&S seems to cut most of their pants to a lower rise... and I like my jeans to fall dangerously close to Momsville.  Yeah, I know but Hips + Low Rise = Muffin Tops... Phooey!

Overall... Over-Accessorized?  We have the gold belt and the metallic flats with rhinestones and the leather/pearl/crystal/gold necklace and some micro-pave stud earrings... Nope!  Just right!

cloudy with a chance of magenta

The weather in the Big D continues to be abysmal... luckily the blacks and grays in your closet are easily spiced up with flirty bow details and a pop of pink, ensuring that your business attire doesn't match the dreary view from outside!

I've never thought of myself as a bow kinda-girl but it appears my shopping habits are proving prior perceptions wrong!  The cardigan is one of my favorites from J.Crew's '08 winter catalog and I scored the flats during Nordstrom's Half-Yearly Sale for $15!  At that price, I went ahead and scooped them up in dark plum as well.

victorian ruffles + purple persuasion

Lots to do this morning so I shall make this quick: I got dressed in the dark today = bad idea; something is surely to go wrong.  While the outfit is not a total disaster, I'm going to be fiddling with my collar and cardigan all day, I can already tell.  V-necks tend to work much better when layering over ruffled necklines but oh well.  Que sera, sera - no?

Current dilemma: buttoned or unbuttoned?

I must note that Purple and I just recently became reacquainted.  My college roommate of 3 years was obsessed with purple and everything - I'm really talking EVERYTHING - on her half of the room was decorated in varying shades of purple... purple bedspread, purple rug, purple pillows, purple phone, purple bulletin board, purple thumbtacks, purple paper clips, purple stapler... EVERYTHING.  I was practically purpled-out by the time Senior year rolled around.  This season, however, I'm all over the deep aubergines and eggplants!  Welcome Back, Purple!

Shout-out to the Flannel Mollys... A shoe that comes close to the perfection of the Juliets.  Love the patent heel and tuxedo stripe down the back!

black suit + polka dots

Admittedly, I wish my first real post were a bit more exciting, but we're all about honesty here at I Take Photos in the Bathroom and a minor work emergency this morning + a court hearing scheduled = slightly more boring work attire than is the norm.

Black Suiting Jacket - custom tailored by Brioni of Bangkok
Silver & White Polka Dotted Silk Trapeze Cami - J. Crew
A-line Pleated Skirt  - Banana Republic Outlet
Black Suede and Patent "Harper" Pumps - J. Crew
Micropave "Mirrorball" Stud Earrings - Banana Republic

I am a huge fan of this skirt!  I also have it in brown and wear both to work all the time - usually when I'm required to be in court as its more conservative than my pencil skirts but the pleats are still feminine without being to school-girlish.

My jacket was custom tailored last August on our trip to Thailand.  I probably got ripped off on several of the pieces I ordered, but this has become an absolute staple.  Actually, truth be told, it lives in my office so that I always have a jacket to throw on in case of emergencies.  And when I actually plan on wearing a black jacket, I just throw it on upon arrival in the morning!

The top is also a favorite - I originally purchased it as part of last year's NYE outfit and wear it with jeans all the time.  I haven't taken my jacket off today but if I were shooting for a more relaxed look (or if it weren't freakin' 58 degrees in the office), I'd probably tuck the top in to give the whole look a bit more shape.  With pencil skirts, I always leave tops untucked, except on the very rare occasions that I wear a button-down.

Oh.  And yes, that is a version of the Topsy-Tail you see there in the mirror.  Don't hate.  Messy bun + topsy-tail that shit = instant, non-80-year-old-secretary-looking, work appropriate updo!
