The organization I'm interviewing with is not a private law firm, so I wanted to steer clear of the Big Black Corporate Power Suit while still appearing professional. A non-matchy dress + jacket combo did the trick just dandily along with my Interview / Court Hose and black bow pumps.
And I suppose the outfit did the trick, as I'm going in for a second interview on Monday! Yay!
Violet Dress - Banana Republic
Black Suit Jacket - Banana Republic
"Blackest Black" Sheer Hose - Leggs (yes, $3.99 drugstore variety)
Black Flannel "Molly" Pumps - J.Crew (Fall 2009)
Gold Figure-Eight Earrings - present
Gold Medallion Necklace - wedding present
... and taking violet casual later that afternoon for lunch (and, um, margaritas) with B!
I purchased this shirt on my first major shopping endeavor since I became unemployed. Thanks to birthday money and the 15% discount from Anthro, I came home with three stellar spring / summer pieces. I have a love/hate relationship with this pairing...love being obvious (ruffles! mini pom-poms! delicate lattice buttons!)... and the hate... I kind of feel like either a four year old on a cool Easter morning or a entry level student at Clown College. Oh well.
Violet "Jackie" Cardigan - J.Crew (here)
"Friendly Competition" Top - Odille via Anthropologie (here)
"Always Skinny" Jeans - GAP
Gold Metallic "Reva" Flats - Tory Burch via Neiman Marcus
Pave Ball Earrings - Banana Republic
Gold Medallion Necklace - wedding present
love the ruffles! good luck on your 2nd interview!
ReplyDeletelots of shrieking violet luck dust coming your way. love the jacket/dress combo - officially staking my claim for when this lilac lovely shows up for sale on your shop page.
ReplyDeletehappy Saturssday :)
I love both of these outfits! Purple looks really good on you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the second interview! Yay! You look far from a four year old in your casual outfit, its very grown-up cute!
ReplyDeleteyou don't look like a clown at all. you can never have enough ruffles or bows in my opinion!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your interview! I love your style and I love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteI like your interview outfit. I have similar JCrew heels, but mine are peep toes in some wild print. Totally unnecessary, but totally great.
ReplyDeleteI like the Anthro shirt, but I'm on the "4 year old on Easter" side with it paired with the cardi. Sorry!
Oh and good luck on your second interview!
ReplyDeleteLove the reva flats. Good luck on your second interview.
ReplyDeleteI love the bow heels! Good luck on your second interview!!! (Yes, that deserves 3 exclamation points.)
ReplyDeleteI think the interview outfit is great! Lots of people make the mistake, I think, of steering towards the black corporate power suit for an interview at places like a bagel shop, a school, or a low-key bank. I was unemployed for 2 years ("over qualified") and wore my power suit on many, MANY interviews. On a whim one day, I slung on a conservative wrap dress for an interview and landed the job of a lifetime... I'm still working there today!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on the second interview, which is today- so GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteLove both outfits! I hope that the second interview went well.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfits! Love those bow pumps.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog girl!!!
