Ahhh platform pumps...
... they make your legs look longer and slimmer, and the big boost under the ball of your foot distributes weight more evenly, making for more comfy shoes!
So what's not to love?
Nothing... in the right atmosphere! For nights out, I pair mine with everything... skinny jeans, skirts and dresses of all silhouettes - from slimmer fits to floatier varieties.
But for the office? Personally, I do think you can make room for platform pumps in your workwear... but when I start sashaying around in mega-high stilettos and a pencil skirt, I feel more Jessica Rabbit and less Competent Kate.
I like fuller and slightly longer circle skirts to compensate for a sassier shoe... this combo tones the sex-appeal way down while still allowing for some fun in the footwear department!
{terribly awkward pose... yikes!}
Do you rock the platform pumps at work?
Sorbet Cap Sleeve Shell - Banana Republic
Chinese Lantern Circle Skirt - French Connection
Black Patent Platform Pumps - Ann Taylor
Pearl Cluster Earrings - Etsy: Bridal Emunique
Skiystone Necklace - Anthropologie
I rocked them today wish a pencil skirt and a lose gingham, purple button-down! I definitely think there is room for platform pumps in work-wear :)
ReplyDeleteI do, and it's given me the title of "that tall girl with huge shoes." I have people come to check out my shoes daily, and have had co-workers measure my heels. I think it can be appropriate as long as your outfit is pretty tame.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate! I've been following for a while but I don't think I've ever commented. Just wanted to say hello!
ReplyDeleteI think you look fabulous in this outfit! And I agree, you have to have a balance in your outfit- if you have one statement piece then be tame with the other pieces. Love this ensemble, lady! xoxo
I have! Except then I unexpectedly had to walk to the courthouse. And almost died. I had blisters and foot issues for days. So I say yay for platform pumps at work--but only on days with minimal walking required!
ReplyDeleteI rock them, but it's weird, because my boss seems pretty darn lenient on any sort of appropriate-apparel policy, but then again she also spends five hours a day chasing her tail. Sooo.
ReplyDeleteAh, the joys of working from home.
:D
I think, when wearing platforms to work we should tread lightly. They have a certain stigma attached to them, especially with the older generation of men and women who are mostly likely our bosses. Platforms can definitely give off the wrong impression if you are not careful.
ReplyDeleteI think the fuller skirt is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of platform pumps that I wear to work (wore - back in the days of paychecks - sniff sniff), but I tended to only wear them with dress pants so you can't really see toooo much of the shoe.
I don't rock the platforms at work, but that's mostly because I live in Portland and here if you wear a skirt and flats it's considered "fancy". They would draw too much attention but I wouldn't think twice if I lived in a major city. I really like the way you compensate for the sexiness with the full skirt. It's all about balance!
ReplyDeleteI wear a pair almost every day. Most all of the shoes I've bought in the last couple of years have the built-in platform (even boots). I think as long as the skirt is long enough (to the knee or right above) and you're covered up on top then it's ok. Then again, I work in a more creative atmosphere so I can usually get away with a little more...
ReplyDeleteI wear them to work, though I don't have that many pairs of them to be honest. But they are perfect to wear with trousers that might be just a little long... then your legs look like really long and it can make the most unflattering school marm slacks and shirt combo look flattering! Your outfit is adorable by the way!
ReplyDeleteLove the orange creme sherbet top with that bold necklace and especially love it that you are still wearing that VERY COOL skirt!!
ReplyDeleteI rock them every single day, however I'm in the lucky position to work for a shoe company! Also, I just posted my first-ever fashion blogger-esque pics today all a la my iPhone, so I'm loving your blog (which I stumbled across today). Solid day all around, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI wear them to work all the time. I don't really have sex appeal, so that's not something I have to worry about (ha, ha).
